honeyed moons in the form of eyes drifted from side to side as frail paws glided over unfamiliar terrain. his paw pads were sensitive - a good thing, perhaps, in that they were aware of every texture and detail of the earth they made contact with, but a bad thing in that they were easily damaged. it was often that he had to stop to examine the raw, almost livid crevices in the pale, velvety tissue upon which he walked.
minute, morning-hued nose nudging its way through the undergrowth, which merely murmured in a gentle protest, pallidpaw was deep into rockclan territory and as far as he could be from home. still, he had not yet found what he sought. his ochre gaze had become glazed; as earnest as he had been, he had yet to discover so much as a leaf. at last, he swayed to a halt, though he refused to sit despite the relief it would provide his bruised paws.
"aren't there any good herbs here?" the apprentice mumbled, more to himself than the terrain that had troubled him so, a sigh of bitter nectar slipping from unwary jaws.
Unlike the other medicine cat apprentice, Lilypaw had been at least a bit more successful in her hunt. A few stems of a ragged-leaved plant was held in her mouth, along with fewer stems of a delicate-leaved plant that left a fresh taste in her mouth. But then again, she had more experience with navigating the terrain and finding the herbs there.
The she-cat leapt from one rock to another, ignoring the brief pain in her paws from the impact. Her head was raised as she intently scanned out the area around her. No clear herbs caught her eye. They were probably in the cracks somewhere... The small she-cat gingerly bit down on the herbs in her teeth as she leaned off the side of the rock she was standing on. She leaned more in hopes of finding something off to the side or under it. But alas, there was no avail.
Her attention was turned when the sight of an unfamiliar cat caught her gaze. Lilypaw froze up, but managed to keep herself atop of the rock. What were they doing!? Were they going to invade or something!? Nonononono... But wouldn't they send in a bigger group of admittedly better built cats? But what if they were a distraction!? Lilypaw's panicked thoughts only grew in intensity, making her appear to shake. Her tail twitched violently as she cautiously turned to the other apprentice.
"H-Hey!" She shouted, immediately shrinking back afterwards. Her blue eyes stood wide while her pupils thinned. Her fluffy fur stood on end, making her look bigger than she really is. She felt as if she should say more, but she couldn't think of anything... Anything that wasn't really rude to say.
at the sound of another cat's voice, pallidpaw jerked his head up, the sudden movement at odds with his delicate demeanour - the impression of frailty the set of his skull gave, the flitting dance of his honeyed eyes, the shrinking back of his small form. "hi," pallidpaw whispered, not knowing what else to say. his heart raced and so did his gaze, and even in that instant of panic he realised the cat couldn't have been any older than him. the she-cat certainly wasn't any larger. she was an apprentice.
pallidpaw's eyes darted from feature to feature, refusing to stay in any one place for too yet. yet each fleeting impression formed a mental catalogue of what the fellow apprentice looked like. eyes like twin sky-blue moons - they were that wide - and pupils but slits of inky darkness. fur a shade of umber that was wan yet warm, painted dark in places, and rising to conceal their owner's true size. to intimidate. to intimidate him.
"are you... scared of me?" pallidpaw questioned, his tone softened and suggesting the very opposite of what his words implied: that he was scared of her. this was further made evident by his gaze, strategically angled so it fell just short of the she-cat's paws, only to take in the terrain beneath him. "i'm a medicine cat apprentice - too." the last syllable was hastily added; it was an afterthought, composed far too late due to his nervousness, and only added in the first place because he had noticed the herbs clasped in the she-cat's jaws.
Thin: Same with my request, which was posted on the 22nd of July. If its possible that you could respond to that then that would be greatly appreciated! Hope to see our banner up soon <3
