The sun had set hours ago, but he was in no mood to rest. How could you, knowing that you'd miss seeing the sky at its most beautiful? In his opinion, life would be best if it were night all the time. The scent of another cat made the tom stiffen. He perked his ears, listening to see if they were heading his way or not.

"hello," he mewed, tail half-raised in greeting. "i'm asphodelkit. what's it like being deputy?" 134 words. They sounded a little too calculated to be from a rodent, however, and the scent of a cat still lingered. 'It must be a kitten.' Didn't the queens give their children bedtimes? It was far too late for a kit to be out. Viperstrike ignored the greeting. He tried to block out the tom's presence, instead fixing his attention to the chirping of crickets. His clanmate's voice easily overpowered their noise. Viperstrike sighed and turned to face him. "Asphodelkit," he began, dismissing the question entirely, "why aren't you in the nursery?" His tone wasn't scorning, but rather curious.

"i wanted to see the sky," asphodelkit replied, tone tinged with something dreamy. "it's pretty. like flowers, and ma, and grass. why're you out here?" He listened as Asphodelkit listed off other things that were beautiful. 'He's a sweet little one.' "Same reason as you." He muttered in response, tapping his tail-tip against the ground. "In case you're wondering... I won't tell your mother you were out this late."
