The sky was clear, the weather sunny and humid, a worthy day to call green-leaf. A soft wind stirred the leaf litter and bushes about, the scent of oak wood, vegetation, and murky water being carried upon the air.
Not to mentioned, that of a small, brown-furred forest mouse sniffing along the earthen soil. With its ears perking at every creek, and small black eyes focused on finding food, it was both ready and unprepared for a hunter to appear. The mouse kept trekking along, paws hardly being strong enough to flatten a grassy path in its wake, and skittish movements proving it hardly knew where to go or what to do. Still, it trudged on, soon hopping up onto a revealed tree root to survey the surrounding area, lit up in a sunny golden glow and only broken in sound by bird song.
The mouse sniffed the air, and then wiped its greedy paws over its face. The same moment a white figure finally revealed itself from the undergrouth.
Crouched as low as physically possible, was the shape of a young cat. Old enough to be a formidable hunter, if not one that bled the image of inexperienced, and marked by a twin set of dull amber eyes. This cat was small, face pressed in slightly with the distant ancestral trait of a Persian, and fur dusted a small silver shade among the snow-white, medium-length locks. She smelled faintly of garlic and of the forest around her, camouflaging the clear, distinguishable RockClan scent only a strong snout could pick up.
She moved with purpose and certainty, trained by a mentor's control and the wild cat's instinct ingraved in her genetics, drawing about the unsuspecting mouse who was still focused on self-cleaning. For it only took but a moment to break away from cover, and a few more to be close enough to attack.
And attack the young apprentice did, as Lightpaw's dilated eyes turned into slits with one objective, and her hindquarters shifted subconsciously for energy and balance. And then -- she was off the ground, a thump of her paws as the white she-cat moved forward, only needing three steps to reach her destination. The moment she had made a sound, the mouse had reacted as well, if not a fraction too slow, attempting to escape in the nearest patch of brambles.
But Lightpaw was faster, and had an advantage of time. Before it could get very far, she had leaped, paws soon landing right on top of the brown creature she was focused on catching. Her jaws parted and snapped downwards for a clean kill, easily ceasing the screams of the mouse, and returning the forest into silence, wind, and soon after... bird song once more.
Letting her paws off the lifeless body, Lightpaw only stared for a few moments before she picked it up in her jaws, and moved closer to the tree root it had been atop. It would be a slightly better place to bury it for later, as the RockClan apprentice was hardly done hunting.
Staining her claws the color brown with dirt, the mouse was hidden away and covered, good enough work.
And it was just as the forest was disturbed behind her, the sound of something bigger than a mouse clashing through. Lightpaw turned her attention onto it, at first assuming it to be a clanmate, but then she wondered otherwise. With such little cats in the clans, of course it was difficult to keep out intruders, whether intelligent or aggressive. Cat or fox, in simplier terms.
So Lightpaw held her ground, waiting to see just who would show up.
{i challenged myself to write a bit more here, so excuse it being a long post just about hunting, haha,
and i got lazy near the end (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
feel free to join! fair warning here, Ligh issuppose to be cold-hearted and distant, so i'd recommend a character that would encourage a conversation, as she'd probably try to walk away! maybe they can hunt together or smth??
