name
Please don't have the same name as a character in the books.
If the character is relatively unknown, it's okay as long as your character is not identical to them.
—— clan names
Clan names have two parts: a prefix and a suffix. The prefix is the first part of the name, and is given to your character upon birth. The suffix is the second part of the name. For example, kits have the suffix 'kit' and apprentices have the suffix 'paw'. A new suffix is given to your character at their warrior ceremony by their Clan leader.
— prefixes
A prefix is allowed if at least one of the following apply:
i. It describes or represents the cat's physical appearance.
e.g. When Rusty joined ThunderClan, he was named Firepaw for his ginger fur.
ii. It honours another cat by referencing their name.
e.g. Leafstar named one of her kits Firekit, in honour of Firestar.
iii. It references a significant event that occurred near or on the day they were born.
e.g. Stormkit was named for the storm that occurred on the day he was born.
A prefix is not allowed if it does not fulfil any of the criteria for an allowed prefix and/or if any of the following apply:
i. It describes or represents the cat's eye colour.
Kits do not open their eyes at birth, and when they do their eyes will be blue for one or two months, and will only change into their final colour when they are three months old.
ii. It is the name of a Clan.
'Ice', 'Fire', 'Tree', 'Rock', and 'Death' are not allowed. However, 'Thunder', 'Shadow', 'River', 'Wind', and 'Sky' are allowed.
iii. It is something feral cats would not know of (let's just pretend cats aren't colourblind).
e.g. 'Diamond', 'Acid', 'Dagger', and 'North' are not allowed because diamond is a precious stone, acid is a chemical substance, daggers are manmade weapons, and north is a compass direction.
iv. It is or was once sacred.
'Cloud', 'Star', and 'Shimmering' are not allowed because CloudClan is what the cats call their warrior ancestors, '-star' is a suffix used exclusively for leaders, and 'Shimmering' refers to Shimmering Rocks.
v. It is a word Clan cats do not use.
e.g. 'Summer', 'Autumn', 'Winter', and 'Spring' are not allowed, because the Clans only ever call these greenleaf, leaf-fall, leafbare, and newleaf respectively.
vi It is an abstract concept.
e.g. 'Dream', 'Wish', 'Spirit', and 'Soul' are not allowed, because prefixes must be physical or concrete concepts.
vii. It is vague.
e.g. 'Life', 'Death', 'Pain', and 'Pleasure' are not allowed, because they do not describe a kit's appearance.
viii. It is a personality trait.
e.g. 'Kind', 'Brave', 'Quiet', and 'Loud' are not allowed, because a newborn kit will not display any significant personality traits.
ix. It describes a physical trait a kit does not have.
e.g. 'Beautiful', 'Handsome', 'Lovely', and 'Pretty' are not allowed, because kits' faces are largely indistinguishable.
x. It describes or represents a negative trait.
e.g. 'Ugly', 'Doomed', 'Cursed', and 'Wretched' are not allowed, because they are disparaging and demeaning.
xi. It is violent or otherwise disturbing.
e.g. 'Blood', 'Bone', 'Dead', and 'Scarred' are not allowed, because they are inappropriate and deprecating.
Note: Exceptions may be made to the last two for injury-related name changes.
— suffixes
A suffix is allowed if at least one of the following apply:
i. It represents the cat's skills.
e.g. Thistleclaw was given the suffix 'claw', for his fighting skill.
ii. It represents the cat's personality.
e.g. Brightheart was given the suffix 'heart', for her brave spirit and inner light.
iii. It represents the cat's appearance.
e.g. Blackfoot was given the suffix 'foot', for his black paws.
iv. It honours another cat by referencing their name.
e.g. Crowfeather chose the suffix 'feather', in honour of Feathertail.
A suffix is not allowed if it does not fulfil any of the criteria for an allowed suffix and/or if any of the following apply:
i. It is something the Clan they were born in would not know of.
ii. It is sacred.
iii. It is an abstract concept.
iv. It is the name of a Clan.
v. It is vague.
vi. It describes or represents a negative trait.
Note: Exceptions may be made to the last one for injury-related name changes.
—— deathclanner names
DeathClanners have one-part names which do not change throughout their life like a Clan cat's. DeathClan names can be actual words or just names like a human would have.
e.g. Sun, Moon; John, Jane
Unlike Clan names, DeathClan names are not always based on appearance - in fact, they rarely are. They are not always physical or concrete concepts, either. Abstract concepts are very much allowed.
e.g. Wish, Dream, Hex, Curse
DeathClan names often have violent or otherwise negative connotations.
e.g. Blood, Beast, Killer, Scar
appearance
—— choosing appearance
If you've already settled on a name, that makes your job a lot easier. For their fur colour, simply use the colour of whatever their prefix is. If you want, you can do the same with pattern!
e.g. Lionblaze has golden fur, like a lion. Hollyleaf has black fur, a colour similar to that of a holly branch. Darkstripe has silver fur with black tabby markings, which are the dark stripes he is named for.
If you've decided on a Clan for your character, that also helps. Each Clan has different physical characteristics, and, while they're not mandatory, they can help you in coming up with an appearance.

The eyes are the window to the soul.
For wild cats like the ones here on Cloudless, the most common eye colour is hazel. Other possible colours are green, yellow, orange, brown, and blue. More specific colours are shades. For example, amber falls in the spectrum between yellow and orange, and copper is between orange and brown.
Keep in mind that Clan cats are wild, so, unless they're a former kittypet or have purebred ancestry from one, they're a moggy. Moggies' eyes are less vivid and a lot more likely to be mixed in colour than purebred cats' are.
In the wild, blue eyes are fairly uncommon. Cats with blue eyes are usually either pointed or at least partially white. The Ojos Azules gene allows a cat who is neither pointed nor white to have cornflower blue eyes, but it is extremely rare.
If a cat who is not pointed, at least partially white, or in possession of the Ojos Azules gene, they can still have blue eyes. However, this blue is typically pale and not as intense as cats who are pointed, partially white, or in possession of the Ojos Azules gene.
Green eyes varies from yellow-green to blue-green.
Yellow eyes range from pale yellow to pale hazel.
Brown eyes can be anywhere from hazel to dark brown. Some cats have hazel eyes that are tinted or flecked with green, and some cats have brown eyes with green, orange, or yellow tints or flecks.
Heterochromia iridium is the condition of having two different-coloured eyes, and is most common in white or partially white cats. Cats with this have one blue eye and one eye of a different colour. If you want your character to have heterochromia, you must buy the Odd Eyes With White or Odd Eyes Without White item from the site shop.
Pink eyes are very rare and are found only in albinos, who have no pigment at all. The eyes tend to have a blue tinge, and, more often than not, albinos end up with blue eyes, not pink. If you want your character to be an albino cat, you must buy Albinism With Blue Eyes or Albinism With Pink Eyes from the site shop.
—— describing appearance
Try to give each feature its own sentence (or two!)
Describe each feature in detail, using synonyms where appropriate.
State the implications of each feature. How do they affect your character's:
i. image?
e.g. Examplepaw's small size makes her seem delicate.
ii. daily life?
e.g. Examplepaw's short fur is easy to groom and maintain, but fails to protect her from colder weather and injury.
iii. personality?
e.g. Examplepaw often bats her long lashes to get what she wants.
personality
—— negative traits
Nobody's perfect, even your character.
A flawed character is a good character. Negative traits make your character unique, interesting, and easier to identify with. They also make your character's positive traits more believable and provide something for them to overcome, as well as other plot points. Without negative traits, your character feels boring, obnoxious, and unrealistic.
Avoid fake flaws. This is when a positive trait is disguised as a negative one.
Examplepaw's beauty isn't a negative trait, because it still has significant benefits. Also, it doesn't make her look bad; it makes her fellow apprentices look bad, for envying her.
Don't restrict your character to a single negative traits, either. A reasonable rule of thumb is that for every three positive traits your character has, they should have at least two negative traits. Even better is a 1:1 ratio, where your character's has a (roughly) equal amount of positive and negative traits.
—— goals
i. What does your character want most?
e.g. Tigerstar wanted to be the leader of ThunderClan.
ii. What will they do to get it?
e.g. Tigerstar killed Redtail in his attempt to become deputy of ThunderClan, breaking the warrior code and committing murder.
iii. How much will they give to get it?
e.g. Tigerstar was willing to forgo a calmer life with his mate, Goldenflower, and his kits, Bramblekit and Tawnykit.
—— describing personality
Examplepaw has no negative traits and that's, well, a negative thing. If you're coming up short for ideas for negative traits, take your character's positive traits and try to spin them into negative ones. For example, some intelligent people are arrogant, some brave people are reckless, and some loyal people are stubborn.
Try to think of traits similar but not identical to the traits you've already mentioned, and add those in.
Like with appearance, try to give each trait its own sentence.
Describe and explain each trait.
State the implications of each trait. How do they affect:
i. how your character acts and thinks?
e.g. Examplepaw is always willing to help others, regardless of her personal feelings towards them, and is always mindful not to inconvenience or harm others.
ii. your character's life?
e.g. Examplepaw's social life suffers due to her studious nature.
iii. how others see your character?
e.g. Examplepaw is seen as a meddler when she tries to intervene in others' lives.
Please don't have the same name as a character in the books.
If the character is relatively unknown, it's okay as long as your character is not identical to them.

—— describing appearance
Examplepaw is a small, short-furred white she-cat with blue eyes.
Examplepaw is small. She has short fur. It is white. She is a she-cat. She has blue eyes.
Examplepaw is small-boned. Her body is slight and slender. She has short fur; it is like velvet clinging to her form, and it is just as soft. It is the hue of freshly-fallen snow, not a single marking or blemish sullying it. She has soft, feminine features, and lengthy, dark lashes rim her eyes. Those eyes are a muted azure, flecked with lapis lazuli especially closer to her pupils.
i. image?
Examplepaw is small-boned. Her body is slight and slender and, as a result, she has an almost delicate aura about her. She has short fur; it is like velvet clinging to her form, and it is just as soft. Its lack of length is advantageous in that it is aerodynamic and easy to groom and maintain, but disadvantageous in that it fails to protect her from colder weather and injury that might be stopped by thicker fur. Her coat is the hue of freshly-fallen snow, not a single marking or blemish sullying it, and she prides herself on her ability to keep it clean despite it pale colour. She has soft, feminine features, and lengthy, dark lashes rim her eyes - lashes she often bats to get what she wants. Her eyes are a muted azure, flecked with lapis lazuli especially closer to her pupils, and are capable of mesmerising those who look too long.

Examplepaw had fur as white and as fluffy as a cloud, eyes as blue and as beautiful as the sky, and lashes as dark and as vast as the night. She was attractive and she hated it. All her Clanmates would fall to their paws, worshipping to very ground she walked on, sighing and swooning at her beauty. Her fellow apprentices all hated her, jealous of her prettiness.
Don't restrict your character to a single negative traits, either. A reasonable rule of thumb is that for every three positive traits your character has, they should have at least two negative traits. —— describing personality
Examplepaw is kind, sweet, intelligent, caring, brave, and loyal.
Examplepaw is kind, sweet, intelligent, caring, brave, and loyal. She is also overly sensitive, emotionally weak, arrogant, reckless, and stubborn.
Examplepaw is kind, patient, sweet, doting, intelligent, studious, caring, compassionate, loyal, and trusting. She is also overly sensitive, volatile, emotionally weak, in possession of low self-esteem, reckless, impulsive, stubborn, and dogmatic.
Examplepaw is kind. She is patient. She is sweet. She is doting. She is intelligent. She is studious. She is caring. She is compassionate. She is loyal. She is trusting. She is overly sensitive. She is volatile. She is emotionally weak. She in possession of low self-esteem. She is reckless. She is impulsive. She is stubborn. She is dogmatic.
Examplepaw is kind to the point it can be unnerving. She is also extremely tolerant. She's also often overly indulgent with others.
Despite her soft exterior, Examplepaw is surprisingly sharp mentally. The apprentice is quick to understand and learn, and is able to do so effectively.
Examplepaw cares deeply for others.
Examplepaw is almost aggressively loyal, to her loved ones and to her Clan. She gives her trust all too easily and far too undyingly. Anyone could sway or deceive this apprentice.
She is easily hurt. For Examplepaw, it seems everything is a touchy subject. Her emotional state is extremely liable to change.
Examplepaw lacks self-esteem and, as a result, confidence.
For someone so thoughtful of others, it is a strange thing how little she thinks of her actions and their consequences. Examplepaw is surprisingly reckless, seeming not to care for the consequences her actions have. It is at times like these she is uninhibited and unrestrained, so unlike her usual self.
As much of a pushover as she is, there is one thing Examplepaw will not budge on easily: her opinions. Perhaps it's her one last resort at holding her own.

Examplepaw is kind, and always seems to be in a pleasant mood to the point it can be unnerving. She's always willing to help others, regardless of her personal feelings towards them, and is always mindful not to inconvenience or harm others. She is also extremely tolerant, which makes her quite likeable to most. She's also often overly indulgent with others, and, despite her young age, often treats them like a mother spoiling her kit.
Despite her soft exterior, Examplepaw is surprisingly sharp mentally. The apprentice is quick to understand and learn, and is able to do so effectively. She's studious, almost compulsively so, spending many hours perfecting the skills she needs to become a warrior. Her social life often suffers as a result.
Examplepaw cares deeply for others and does her best to show it. However, when she voices her concerns she often comes across as overly prying. The matter is made even worse when she attempts to intervene, earning her quite the reputation as a meddler despite her good intentions.
Examplepaw is almost aggressively loyal, to her loved ones and to her Clan. The mere concept of treachery frightens her. Perhaps it's the idea someone might just betray her trust, which she gives all too easily and far too undyingly. She is reminiscent of a young kit in her gullibility; anyone could sway or deceive this apprentice.
And like a young kit, she is easily hurt. For Examplepaw, it seems everything is a touchy subject. The apprentice cannot take criticism for the life of her, constructive or otherwise, and is quick to take offence and even quicker to act defensive. Her emotional state is extremely liable to change. Though she'll try to hide it, all too often it shows.
Examplepaw lacks self-esteem and, as a result, confidence. She is unable to accept praise, always feeling as though she is unworthy of the attention, yet yearns for any form of affirmation, no matter how small, that she means something to someone. Every mistake that she makes is a matter of life and death in her mind, no matter how much one might try to convince her otherwise.

While the she-cat tends to shy away from confrontation, she will downright refuse to make compromises when it comes to her beliefs. She will deny all evidence against her way of thinking, despite not having any of her own to back it up. Perhaps it's her one last attempt at holding her own.
