large, umber eyes swept their surroundings as their owner moved through the forest, the rustle of fur against undergrowth the only indicator of her presence. though slender limbs carried her forward it was her nose that led her, through the sprawling shrubbery and past towering trees.
the night shrouded her features, but a satisfied, almost content twist of her muzzle could be seen as she darted through the woods, the contact between her paws and the earth but a breath of sensation. that smile soon faded when she came across someone in her territory.
"what are you doing in my territory?" nepenthe asked, her tone more curious than accusatory.
Some days were meant for hunting, some days were meant for exploring, and some days were perfect for taking a rest. Today was very much the latter as Darago chanced upon a small clearing in the trees. The space was small, but the sun kept it warm and the grass made for a soft cushion.
The wolf was quite settled by the time someone else arrived. He was not asleep, but his eyes were closed and his breathing was quite settled. Darago's large form was relaxed and looked altogether rather settled and apparently unaware that he had company-- seeing as he did not react until the arrival spoke. His reaction in itself was not much; a momentary stiffness and one amber eye blinking open to take in the creature before him. Darago closed his eye and let out a yawn.
the margay started to move around darago, a gleam present in her ochre eyes. it was a lovely territory, if a little small, and the small wildcat had struggled to earn it - and keep it. she certainly wasn't going to let this wolf take it from her now. but the canine was, well, large. it would not be an exaggeration to say his weight was tenfold that of hers.
"i suppose you can stay," nepenthe conceded, with a twitch of her white-rimmed ears. "nice, isn't it? had to fight tooth and claw for it." a warning, if anything, and an exaggerated one at that. she settled down beside the wolf, albeit warily, the grass like silk to her paws. "don't you have your own territory, anyway?"
His intentions had been to simply continue on with resting while speaking if prompted, but the cat's tone of voice made him pause in his lack of actions. He made no move to get up, but he did open his eyes and lift his head. She was a small thing compared to him and he wasn't really concerned with the damage she might do, but he did not wish her any ill will.
"I'm not going to try and take this land away from you. It is nice, and I simply hoped to enjoy it for the day, I can move on if you wish." Darago lowered his head back to the ground, but kept his eyes open. "I have a den, but I don't keep any borders to my home. So, I suppose you could say that I technically do, but in a truer sense? No."
Not that this was something Darago was bothered by. There had been a pack here and there, but in the end he enjoyed the solitude and simplicity that came with living on his own.
nepenthe nodded - a short, almost jerky bob of her head acknowledging her understanding. "understandable," she said, her voice almost a murmur. a new warmth flickered in her brown eyes as she examined the pale-furred wolf; now he had established he was not a threat to her or her territory, she had become more open to the idea of company.
the margay stretched her body out, a yawn slipping from her jaws as she started to relax. "so, what's your story? do you belong to a pack of your own?" aware that her questioning might come across as intrusive, nepenthe regarded the wolf with some wariness.
Good, things seemed to calming down. A portion of the tenseness that had been hanging in the air seemed to dissipate, or so it seemed to Darago. He took a moment to focus on the sensation of the sun's warmth seeping into his fur. How it seemed to envelop him in a warm, comforting blanket.
"I've had packs before, but none currently. Too much stress, drama, and what have you. I'm a simple wolf and I think I'm made for a more simple life, a peaceful one." And it currently it was one. The forest was a big enough that Darago had enough room for just himself. Himself and the other he was bound to cross paths with, of course. "How about you?"
